Mother’s Day is coming up, and since my mother made this monogrammed mug rug especially for me, I thought I’d feature it this week. B, of course, stands for Becca. Or Becky, which anyone who knew me before I turned 18 is allowed to call me but no one else is. Or Beck, which I really like. No one calls me Rebecca.
The five prints in the nine-patch block all have meaning. I’m a baseball fan, and I used to run races at Walt Disney World regularly. The fabric based on Seurat’s “A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte” is a scrap from the backing of the first quilt I made for her (and the second quilt I made EVER). The Asian print is a reminder of the queen-sized cathedral windows quilt that she made for me in 2008 from Asian-inspired fabrics. Finally, the blue and green print, I think, is just her little joke about how I’m always drawn to fabric with circles on it. (She’s right.)
This mug rug gets regular use in my house. Not only was it made to remind me of my favorite things, it also reminds me of one of my favorite people. Happy Mother’s Day, Mom! I love you!
