January was the final month for our mug rug swap, and I seem to remember that I was crunched for time. So I kept it simple with a white on white print, pops of color provided by scraps from an earlier Kona swap, and my first attempt at quilting following a stencil. (Please remember that I always kept the worst examples for myself. I’m cool with imperfection, but this one makes me cringe a little. Also note that this is an example of why I prefer to finish bindings by hand.)
I like the color choices I made, and using variegated thread for the snowflakes was kind of neat. A simple overall free-motion design like this one might have been a better choice. I wish I hadn’t been in a bit of a rush to finish these up and had taken more time with the quilting and had finished the binding properly. But overall, for a mug rug which is meant to be used, I think it’s not a bad little project.
