I took a little time off from social media (and the blog!) to hang out with my kids before they left for summer camp. I even stopped my scheduled Mug Rug Monday posts! Can you believe it?

But there’s been a lot happening over in the air-conditioned and newly-televisioned Pretty Piney studio. Some of it is secret. I’m terrible at secrets. But luckily, there’s plenty of other quilty goodness to share until ALL IS REVEALED.

There’s been a thing making the rounds among many of my blogging friends called the Liebster Awards. I have mixed feelings about it, as I love the concept of bloggers helping bloggers, plus I’m a sucker for answering lists of questions, BUT it’s a little chain letter-y, and I prefer a blog hop format for spreading the word about other blogs.

So, here’s the situation: my friend Sherry, of Powered by Quilting, nominated me for a Liebster to spread the love! Sherry and I met at the Sew Pro Convention, then met again at QuiltCon, and we’ll be seeing each other again at Walt Disney World Marathon weekend next year. She’s a talented pattern designer and writer, and you should check out her blog immediately.

I’ll wait.

Sherry said nice things about me, and I didn’t even pay her.

Anyway, what I’m going to do is answer the questions (SERIOUSLY LET ME TALK ABOUT MYSELF) and suggest a couple of other blogs you might enjoy. They aren’t quilt blogs. Just so you know.

  • Who inspired you to sew/quilt?

I learned to sew out of necessity. I’m quite tall, and I couldn’t find maternity pants long enough when I was pregnant with my daughter. For about ten years after that, most of my sewing was inspired by the spirit of competition. Let’s just say that I took the school Halloween costume contest quite seriously for a few years. As far as quilting goes? My mom inspired me to pick it up, and she still inspires me.

  • What is your favorite quilt/sewn project/craft?

NOT A FAIR QUESTION, SHERRY. NOT NICE AT ALL.

  • How do you bind a quilt? Tuck or Join the ends? Hand sew, or machine sew the binding?

Oh! Oh! I want to write a post about this! I join the ends, and I prefer to hand sew. But sometimes machine sewing is the better choice.

  • What is your favorite color?

No, it’s really blue.

  • If you could meet anyone dead or alive, who would it be?

Today? Jim Henson. He seems like a marvelous person, and one who would be willing to share his thoughts on creativity, passion, and adventure.

  • Do you work on one project or many at a time?

Um, have you met me? ALL THE PROJECTS.

  • What is your favorite quilting/craft item you can’t live without, besides your machine?

Hmmmmm. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but my iron. It makes my work better, and I use it all the time.

  • What is your favorite podcast/movie/tv show?

My favorite podcast is Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me. It’s topical, funny, and an excellent distraction during long runs. I don’t have to pay close attention to it, either. If my mind wanders (as it often does), it doesn’t matter!

My favorite movie of all time? Some Like It Hot. But I have lots of close seconds. I love movies.

As far as TV shows, I don’t really have a favorite, but I have a bunch that I watch regularly. Right now, I’m excited to see what happens next in Game of Thrones. #teamsamwell

This is the part where I send you to other blogs, but I don’t officially nominate them for a Liebster Award, because I am a killer of joy. Just ask my fifteen-year-old daughter.

My sister over at Crickwooder Chronicles is not a quilter, but a damn talented writer. She, like yours truly, is fond of question lists, snark, and movies. She also writes the blog for our family’s cranberry farm.Β She gets a little sly humor in there sometimes, and I always especially enjoy her interview features.

My friend Paula Mamuscia over at Creations by Paula is another friend I met at Sew Pro. She’s an amazing clothing designer with so many new opportunities coming down the pike that she doesn’t blog frequently. You can see more of her work by following her on Instagram.
