take a sip of inspirationI created this week’s mug rug in honor of the Boston Marathon. This was my first attempt at foundation paper piecing–I promise you that I’ve gotten much better at it. I’m definitely better at paper piecing than I am at running. In fact, the closest I’m likely to get to qualifying for the Boston Marathon is permanently recorded in the pages of Runner’s World, from the time they asked followers on social media to write six words about the historic marathon.

The block is titled the Boston Pavement Block, and the pattern is available on Craftsy. I set it on point and quilted lines away from it to give it a feeling of motion. The blue and yellow fabrics were selected to reflect the official colors of the marathon.

This mug rug was made by Becca Fenstermaker, and was obviously my first-ever attempt at foundation paper piecing.
