take a sip of inspirationThis past weekend, my family took our annual trip to see the stunning Christmas displays at Longwood Gardens. On our way home, we stopped to pick up our tree! It’s probably the nicest one we’ve ever had, but larger than we’d planned.

So this week’s mug rug is a triangle Christmas tree embellished with ribbon and a button!

Mug Rug Christmas Tree
This mug rug was made by Crystal Smith, aka “Mom”.

It looks like the ornaments were fussy cut from either a panel or a large print, but I tracked down a neat video tutorial about making perfect appliqué circles without any special quilting tools. You know I love raw-edge work, but sometimes a nice turned edge is just what a project needs.

  1. I love Longwood Gardens. My brother lives in Kennett Square and sometimes I get there, although never at Christmas. One year when spend a more leisurely time going home I will do it!

  2. I lived in Wilm, DE for 25yr and visit my family freq. We used to go to Longwood every Christmas and Easter.. Now my brothers take their families there every Christmas. Isn’t it fantastic? I am jelouse of anyone.able to get there.

  3. Made by your mother. I gave up labeling when no one else was. These ornaments were fussy cut scraps from a table topper project
