Sew Let’s Quilt Along is the latest quilt-along from Partners in Design, a group of quilt pattern designers who previously brought you I Wish You a Merry Quilt-Along and Fall into a Quilt-Along. The theme? Well, sewing and quilting, of course!
This time, we’ve changed things up a little. All of the patterns remain free from the designers through the end of the quilt-along. The blocks will still be released every two weeks at midnight Eastern time (starting March 12), but instead of twelve 12″ blocks, we’re releasing thirteen blocks–and one of them measures 18″ x 24″. That’s not the only change! Making a quilt top isn’t the only way to be eligible for the grand prize–we’re offering the option of making smaller projects, too. Some of the Sew Let’s Quilt Along hosts will share ideas for how to use the blocks in small projects, and some of us will share ideas on how to finish a quilt top using all thirteen blocks.

We’ve divided the quilt-along into three segments, with prizes at the end of each segment (plus the grand prize at the end of the whole thing). Because oh yes, there are prizes! Before the end of each segment, make all of the designers’ blocks in that segment and share either one photo of the blocks together or one photo of each block, but all posted at the same time in one location (all in one Facebook post, or all in one Instagram post, or all in one blog post). Here are the three ways you can enter:
- Join the Partners in Designs Facebook group and post your entry there.
- Post your entry on Instagram with the hashtag #SewLetsQAL.
- Link up to a linky party that will appear at the end of each segment on the segment hosts’ blogs. (It’s the same linky party on every participating blog, so you only need to link up ONCE.)
To be eligible to win the grand prize, you need to make all 13 blocks from the whole quilt along and turn them into a quilt or other project(s). Quilt tops don’t need to be quilted, but other projects do need to be finished. Share a single post that shows all of the blocks in a quilt or project(s). It doesn’t matter how many projects or what projects you make, or how many blocks you use in each project as long as you show that you’ve used all 13 blocks in a finished project or projects.
All participants over the age of 18 are eligible to enter for prizes! Not only will there be patterns and other surprises from Sew Let’s Quilt Along designers and hosts, the following companies have offered us generous prizes so far:
This list is by no means complete. We’re still confirming sponsors!
Sew Let’s Quilt Along is a mystery quilt-along, but I can give you a few tips to get ready. With eleven different designers, you’ll get to practice an assortment of techniques (mostly piecing and appliqué, though). This is a scrap-friendly quilt-along, and you’ll have plenty of flexibility to make your own fabric choices. Because of this, it’s difficult to suggest exact yardage–especially now that we’ve added the option for an assortment of projects. I’ve chosen a collection of fabric yardage from my stash that includes an assortment of colors and values, and I’ve designated both a dark background and a light background to use (since I’m making a quilt from all thirteen blocks, I decided that I wanted uniform background colors). I’ll add scraps from my stash as necessary. You might want to start with 8-10 fat quarters, plus a yard of background fabric.
For your reference throughout the Sew Let’s Quilt-Along, I’m maintaining a page that includes all of the dates and links you’ll need to know! There’s even a downloadable checklist to help keep track of your progress and easily remember your deadlines.
So start gathering your fabrics, join the Facebook group (seriously, it’s the best way to find inspiration and support), follow the Instagram hashtag #SewLetsQAL, start bookmarking the hosts’ blogs, and get ready to quilt along with us!
